Overview
ZLAN5212DI is a serial server/IoT gateway with RS485 opto-decoupling isolation specially designed for industrial environments, which can effectively isolate the impact of interference on the RS485 bus on the working of the device and ensure the stability of the device. It is suitable for use in environments where RS485 bus interference is present. 9~24V wide voltage, terminal type power connection, with shell grounding wire.
The 5212DI has two RS485 ports and one Ethernet port. It comes with hanging ears and rail buckles, supports 3 installation methods, is compact and easy to install. The 2-way serial port (PORT) of the 5212DI can use the same IP address, and different serial ports can be distinguished by the port, or each serial port can use a different IP address. This design increases flexibility and manageability, both by conserving IP resources through shared addresses and by enabling independent network communication through different IP addresses.
ZLAN5212DI supports 2-bit stop bits, supports less than 8-bit data bits (e.g., 7-bit data has 1 stop bit), and supports up to 921.6Kbps baud rate.
ZLAN5212DI can realize the conversion of 2 channels TCP/IP protocol to RS485, and the 2 channels work at the same time and can be configured for different baud rates. The data collection of 485 devices can be realized through the network, and the network terminal can use the virtual serial port to connect the serial port software or the software of direct TCP/IP communication.
ZLAN5212DI supports transparent transmission and Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP functions, has the characteristics of a storage Modbus gateway, and also supports the MQTT protocol. It supports MODBUS RTU and 645 protocol to JSON and sends it regularly through MQTT/HTTP POST.
ZLAN5212DI can be applied to:

A typical application connection is shown in Figure 2. The original serial port device RS485 is connected to the RS485 port of the ZLAN5212DI, and the 5212DI is connected to the computer through the network cable. The software on the computer establishes a connection with the 5212DI through TCP/IP, virtual serial port, or cloud server. Thereafter, any data sent by the serial device is transparently transmitted to the computer's software, and the data sent by the software to the ZLAN5212DI over the network is transparently transmitted to the serial device.
Peculiarity
Hardware features:
- There are three ways to choose from rail mounting, backplate mounting ear mounting, and desktop mounting ear fixing. It is especially suitable for industrial guide rail installation, which can save installation space due to the narrow transverse width, and is more convenient for installation and disassembly.
- Industrial-grade power supply mode: terminal block wiring mode, convenient for industrial use. It can be supplied with a wide voltage of 9~24V. With enclosure grounding wire, effective diversion of disturbances and surges.
- RS485 serial port optocoupler isolation, isolation voltage 1500V. It is suitable for strong interference environments where ordinary serial port servers cannot work normally. Effectively isolate the ground circuit between the serial device and the serial server.
- Abundant panel indicators for easy debugging: in terms of connection, there are not only NET lights that indicate whether the network cable is connected well, but also LINK lights that indicate the establishment of TCP connections, and independent indicators of "serial port to network port" and "network port to serial port" in terms of data indicators. Convenient for on-site commissioning.
Software features:
- The 2-way serial port can be configured for different baud rates, working independently and without interfering with each other.
- Support IP "doppelganger" technology: 2 serial ports can be distinguished by port or IP. Port differentiation: two IPs can be merged into one IP, different ports are suitable for networks lacking IPs, and IP differentiation: one IP becomes two IPs with the same port, which is suitable for applications with a fixed port number (for example, port 502 of Modbus TCP needs to be fixed).
- TCP server, TCP client, UDP mode, and UDP multicast are supported. When acting as a TCP client, it also supports TCP server-side functions. Supports up to 30 TCP connections as a TCP server and 7 destination IPs as a TCP client.
- Support virtual serial port, equipped with Windows virtual serial port & device management tool ZLVircom.
- It supports sending MAC addresses on device connections, which is convenient for cloud management.
- Provide a secondary development package DLL development library for searching and configuring devices on the computer side.
- It supports web browser configuration and DHCP to dynamically obtain IP and DNS protocol connection domain name server addresses
Advanced software features
- It supports Modbus gateway function and Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP. It can support storage-based Modbus, which can automatically collect and store device data, Modbus gateway in non-storage mode, and Modbus gateway function of ZLMB configurable table.
- Support multi-host function: In the one-question-and-answer query mode, the network port allows multiple computers to access the same serial port device at the same time. It is also possible to implement multi-host applications from one serial port to multiple serial ports.
- The MQTT gateway function is supported.
- It supports Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP and 645 meter to JSON protocols, and supports HTTP POST AND HTTP GET formats to upload data.
- Support NTP protocol to obtain network time, which is used for serial port output, and the latter is used for protocol content uploading.
- Support custom heartbeat package and registration package function: it can easily communicate with the cloud and identify devices.
- TCP connection requires password verification to ensure connection security.
- It supports the data submission and delivery function of http, and the cloud can directly use the http GET command to interact with the serial port data of the device.
